SkyTile Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 31, 2026
SkyTile (“SkyTile,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides the SkyTile mobile application, connected SkyTile displays, website, and online store, together with related features and support (collectively, the “Services”).
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and retain personal information when you use the Services, create an account, set up or operate a SkyTile display, make a purchase, or contact us. It also explains your privacy choices and rights.
Our online store is powered by Shopify. Our mobile app and connected-device services use separate infrastructure and service providers, as described below.
“Personal information” means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you or your household. This policy does not apply to information that has been anonymized so that it can no longer reasonably identify you.
1. Information We Collect
The information we collect depends on which Services you use.
Account and profile information. When you create or manage a SkyTile account, we collect information such as your first and last name, email address, account identifier, sign-in method, and onboarding status. If you register with an email address and password, our authentication provider processes your credentials. We also process authentication tokens and related information to maintain your session and secure your account.
Apple and Google sign-in information. If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the information that provider makes available for authentication, such as your name, email address, provider account identifier, and authentication tokens. Apple may provide a private relay email address if you choose to hide your email. We do not receive your Apple or Google account password. We may retain provider credentials needed to manage your connection or revoke access when you delete your account.
Location and detection-area information. With your device’s permission, the app accesses your current location to establish or refresh the area in which your SkyTile detects aircraft. This may include precise latitude and longitude. We store the saved detection location and radius with your SkyTile device record, which is linked to your account.
The app does not continuously track your phone’s location in the background. Your SkyTile can continue using the saved detection area while the app is closed.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi setup information. The app uses Bluetooth to discover, connect to, and configure a nearby SkyTile display. During Wi-Fi setup, it processes nearby network names, signal strength, network security information, and the network name and password you provide. Your credentials are transferred to the SkyTile display over Bluetooth and stored on that display so it can connect to your Wi-Fi network.
SkyTile device information and activity. We collect device identifiers, account-to-device associations, configuration settings, preferred measurement units, time zone information, display status, online status, and connection timestamps. We also store aircraft sightings associated with your SkyTile, including aircraft identifiers, flight details, aircraft positions, and sighting timestamps. These records support flight displays, sighting counts, and related features.
Technical information and diagnostics. When you use the Services, we and our providers may collect IP addresses, device and operating system information, app or browser versions, timestamps, request information, crash reports, error messages, and information about interactions with the Services. The mobile app’s use of session replay is explained in Section 3.
Shopping and payment information. When you browse or purchase from our store, we and Shopify may collect your name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping addresses, order details, shopping activity, and payment-related information. Payment providers process payment credentials. We receive transaction information needed to manage your order, such as payment status and limited payment-method details.
Communications and feedback. We collect information you provide when contacting us, requesting support, completing an interest form or survey, or giving feedback. This may include your contact details, product interests, intended use of SkyTile, contact preferences, and the contents of your message.
We collect this information directly from you, automatically through your use of the Services, from your connected SkyTile display, and from providers such as Shopify, authentication services, payment processors, and diagnostic services.
2. How We Use Personal Information
We use personal information to:
- Create, authenticate, maintain, and secure your account.
- Connect your SkyTile display to your account and Wi-Fi network.
- Configure your detection area, identify relevant aircraft, deliver flight information, and calculate sighting statistics.
- Remember your preferences and manage device settings.
- Process payments, fulfill orders, arrange shipping, and handle returns, refunds, or warranty inquiries.
- Respond to support requests and communicate about your account, device, orders, or changes to the Services.
- Diagnose problems, investigate crashes, understand how features are used, and improve reliability and usability.
- Send marketing communications and support website advertising, subject to your choices and applicable law.
- Prevent fraud, unauthorized access, misuse, and other security threats.
- Comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect our rights and those of others.
We do not use your saved aircraft detection location or Wi-Fi credentials for targeted advertising.
3. Mobile App Diagnostics and Session Replay
We use Sentry to help identify errors and troubleshoot the mobile app and backend services. Diagnostic information may include technical device information, IP addresses, error details, request information, and events leading up to a problem.
The mobile app also uses Sentry session replay. This records a visual representation of in-app screens and interactions, such as taps, scrolling, and navigation, for a sample of sessions and sessions associated with errors. We use these recordings to understand and resolve problems.
Sentry’s default replay settings are designed to mask text, images, and user input. Masking does not make all diagnostic information anonymous, and recordings may still contain visible interface elements and information about your interaction with the app. Session replay does not use your camera or microphone or record activity in other apps.
For more information, see Sentry’s Session Replay documentation. You may contact us about diagnostic data or to exercise applicable privacy rights using the details below.
4. App Permissions and Local Storage
The app requests permissions needed for particular features:
- Location: To establish or refresh your aircraft detection area.
- Bluetooth or Nearby Devices: To discover and configure your SkyTile display. Some Android versions also require location permission for Bluetooth discovery.
You can manage these permissions in your phone’s settings. Denying or withdrawing permission may prevent setup or the affected feature from working. Withdrawing location permission does not automatically delete the detection location already saved to your account.
The app stores authentication session information locally to keep you signed in. Your SkyTile display separately stores setup information, including Wi-Fi credentials and device authentication information.
Uninstalling the app does not delete your account or information stored on our servers or your SkyTile display.
5. Cookies, Website Analytics, and Advertising
Our website and Shopify store use cookies and similar technologies to operate the store, maintain shopping carts and sessions, remember preferences, protect against fraud, and understand website activity. Depending on the features enabled and your privacy choices, these technologies may also support personalized advertising and measurement.
Website advertising providers may process identifiers, browsing activity, purchase activity, and related information to show or measure advertising across websites. These activities may qualify as a “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” under applicable privacy laws.
You can manage available cookie and data-sharing choices through the store’s privacy controls and your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect store functionality. Where required by law, we recognize applicable opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control, for the browser or device sending the signal.
You may also contact us to exercise applicable opt-out rights. Shopify’s own privacy choices are available through its Privacy Portal.
The mobile app does not display third-party advertisements. Visiting our website through a link in the app is subject to the website practices described in this section.
6. How We Disclose Personal Information
We disclose personal information where needed for the purposes described in this policy, including to:
- Hosting and authentication providers: Including Supabase, which supports app authentication and database storage.
- Diagnostic providers: Including Sentry, which processes crash reports, diagnostic events, and session replays.
- Map providers: The app loads maps from OpenFreeMap. Loading a map sends network requests that reveal your IP address and the map areas requested to the map provider and its delivery infrastructure. See OpenFreeMap’s Privacy Policy.
- Sign-in providers: Apple and Google, when you use their sign-in services.
- Commerce providers: Shopify, payment processors, shipping carriers, and providers supporting order fulfillment and customer service.
- Communication and business tools: Providers supporting email, customer inquiries, and internal operations. Website inquiry details may be routed to our internal Slack workspace.
- Advertising and analytics partners: In connection with website activities described in Section 5, subject to applicable privacy choices.
We may also disclose information when you request or authorize it; to comply with law or valid legal process; to prevent fraud or protect safety, security, and legal rights; or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of our business or assets.
7. Shopify’s Role
Shopify hosts our online store and processes information about your visits, purchases, and other store interactions to provide and improve its services.
Where Shopify Network Intelligence or related enhanced features are enabled, Shopify may combine information from interactions with our store with information from interactions with other merchants and Shopify to provide features such as personalization, fraud prevention, and advertising. For certain processing associated with these features, Shopify acts as an independent controller and handles the related privacy requests.
Information may be processed by Shopify and its providers in countries other than your own.
Learn more in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy. You can exercise relevant choices concerning Shopify’s processing through the Shopify Privacy Portal.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, taking account of the information’s sensitivity, the Services you use, legal requirements, security needs, and applicable deletion requests.
Account information, saved detection settings, and device-associated sighting records are generally retained while needed to provide your account and connected-device features. Diagnostic information and session replays are retained according to the relevant provider settings and our troubleshooting and security needs.
Order, payment, and support records may need to be retained for accounting, tax, warranty, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or other legal purposes.
Deletion from active systems may not immediately remove copies in backups. Information retained in backups or for legal reasons remains subject to applicable protections and retention requirements.
9. Account Deletion
You can initiate deletion of your mobile app account through Settings → Delete account. You can also request deletion by emailing contact@theskytile.com, including if you cannot access the app or its settings.
Deleting your account removes your app profile and account-to-device associations. Device records, saved detection settings, device credentials, and associated sighting records are also deleted when no other account remains associated with that device. Records needed to serve another account associated with the same device may remain.
Account deletion does not automatically erase information stored on your physical SkyTile display, including Wi-Fi credentials. Contact us for assistance removing locally stored information before selling, transferring, or disposing of your display.
Deleting your app account does not automatically delete separate Shopify customer or order records. Contact us if you also want to request deletion of store information. Certain records may be retained as described in Section 8.
10. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have the right to:
- Access personal information we hold about you and learn how it is used and disclosed.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Request deletion of personal information.
- Receive a portable copy of certain information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or its use for targeted advertising.
- Limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
Precise location and certain account credentials may be considered sensitive personal information under applicable law.
You may update available profile information in the app or contact us to exercise your rights. We may need to verify your identity or an authorized agent’s authority before fulfilling a request, where permitted or required by law. We will respond within applicable legal deadlines and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in those messages. You may still receive necessary account, order, security, or service communications.
If we decline a request, you may contact us to appeal where applicable law provides that right. You may also complain to your local privacy regulator.
11. Additional Information for the EEA and UK
Where European Economic Area or United Kingdom data protection law applies, our legal bases for processing include:
- Contract: To provide requested account, connected-device, shopping, and support services.
- Legitimate interests: To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Services and manage our business, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Consent: Where required for particular location access, tracking technologies, session replay, or marketing activities.
- Legal obligations: To satisfy applicable accounting, tax, regulatory, and other legal requirements.
Where required information is not provided, we may be unable to create your account, configure your display, fulfill an order, or provide the requested feature.
You may object to processing based on legitimate interests, including related profiling, and may object to direct marketing at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. EEA authorities are listed by the European Data Protection Board. UK residents can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.
12. International Data Transfers
SkyTile is based in the United States. We and our providers may store, access, and process personal information in the United States and other countries whose privacy laws differ from those where you live.
Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, we rely on recognized mechanisms, such as adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses, and applicable UK transfer arrangements. You may contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data.
13. Children’s Privacy
The Services are intended for adults who have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate steps to delete it. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of individuals under 16 for targeted advertising.
14. Security and Third-Party Services
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. No system or transmission method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your account credentials confidential and avoid sending passwords or payment credentials in support messages.
The Services may link to third-party websites or services. Their independent handling of personal information is governed by their own policies. This includes Apple, Google, and other services you choose to use.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our Services, practices, or legal obligations change. We will post the updated policy and revise the “Last updated” date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before making relevant changes.
